I need to learn how to dance salsa, quick!?

Im meeting this girl that my friend is trying to intorduce me to. I already know that she thinks i am really cute and we both are involved in the same program for our respective majors. Tho only thing is, is that she is an avid dancer and enjoys dancing salsa a lot. Any tips, videos, advice you can give me to learn quickly? I am of Cuban descent so its not like Im from Ohio or nothing. But I have danced in ages.

Thank you!!

It depends what type of salsa dancing you need to learn. If you need to learn to dance basic salsa of dancing with a partner (New York / Puerto Rican or LA Style), addicted2salsa provides a free online video dance lesson series at http://addicted2salsa.com/videos/ to get started (or download them through iTunes). This should be enough to give you a crash course until you can find local salsa dance lessons in your area. There are two types of timing in salsa: On1 or On2. Most people start dancing On1 timing (down beat of the music), however if you are in specific regions like Puerto Rico, New York, San Diego, etc you may need to learn to dance salsa on On2 timing. Addicted2Salsa has several articles explaining the differences (and providing tips).

If you are looking for Cuban salsa, sometimes known as Casino Rueda, which is salsa that is danced by a group of people at the same time – that will definitely require an instructor and set of other dancers to help you learn the ‘salsa call-outs/commands’ in that type of dance. You can find several of these steps for free on YouTube as well.

PS. Ohio has great salsa dancers :-)

Salsa classes in Swansea?

Does anyone know of a good Salsa class in Swansea suitable for beginners, I want to go on my own, so somewhere where you don’t need to bring a partner and also not in a night club as I wouldn’t feel comfortable going on my own. Any ideas?

There should be some places in Providence

How is someone considered to be a good dancer?

how can someone be considered to be a good dancer or "grinder" more specially. Or give some tips on how they can improve to be a good dancer at school dances.
thanks.

Somebody will be a good dancer if he practises more hours (min. 2) every day, then his movements will be nicer and nicer and he will be more and more confident.

what classes should i take to begin ballet at 16?

I’ve been researching ballet classes from the internet to phone books, but i’m not sure which class is the right one for me to begin with. What i’m trying to ask is:
Will they put me in a beginners class with little kids?
What is an ‘intensive ballet’ class?
Is it harder to do ballet when you have a flat foot? The type of foot that doesn’t have that little curve at the bottom.

I think it is very excited that you want to begin ballet! Ballet is such an important element in dance because it is the key to every other style. I am sure since you are 16, they will not put you in a class with little kids. You should be placed in a somewhat age appropriate class so you feel comfortable and so that the teacher is working with kids of a similar age. An intensive ballet class is just really a way of saying that it is a strong, hard working, serious class. As a flat footed ballerina named Kayla myself, I believe that it does take a little more work in the beginning to achieve the arch in your foot. You do start to gain muscle to help you overcome flat feet because of the repetition in ballet. Dancers do the impossible with their bodies, and that is the way I look at it with my feet. You can do anything you put your mind to!! Good Luck in your Ballet Classes!

What some good tips when teaching a man to Ballroom dance?

I am a girl I Ballroom dance I am trying to teach my cousin to dance. I tell him woman are like a wheel barrel you have to be strong kind of like Tarzan. Lead with your shoulders. Any other hints?
I am just teaching him the basic Waltz, Rumba nothing to advance.

You got off to a bad start with the shoulder advice. He’ll have to un-learn that soon. Waltz is actually led from the core of the body. I used to have a teacher who corrected that in my lead by having me dance with her without arm/hand contact. If you’re having him put you in place instead of leading you, he’s going to learn bad habits.
While it’s unusual in American studios, I think the English system of learning proper body contact early is superior, for the Smooth/Standard dances. Work on the basics of posture and proper use of the feet and knees, and the rest will come more easily.

How do professional dancers make a living?

Take the sort of dancers who work on Strictly Come Dancing. What sort of backgrounds do they come from (dance-wise) and where do they work the rest of the time?

Basically what everyone else has said but Arlene Phillips choreographs for musicals. She recently choreographed for Flashdance the musical and had a big part to play in Britannia High being the producer and choreographer.
I have a few friends that are professional dancers and they make their money by teaching classes, going on tours with bands and touring theatre companies – one of my friends is currently in Flashdance and my other friend just gets what ever work he can.

DEJAN TUBIC CARNIVAL Choreography to Bad Romance by: Lady Gaga

“BAD ROMANCE” at Carnival; Choreographer’s Ball.

The Story goes:

Blonde lover Tarin is in love with Dejan and drifs away in a happy melody dancing with him. They lean in to kiss and gets interupted by Glenda who walks Dejan off, assuring him he’ll be better off with her. Her Mini-Me Gabriel helps Dejan off as Glenda and her group show Tarin that Glenda deserves Dejan. Tarin then gets up, marks her territory and shows that she will not stand for that. As she leaves, her angels who have been watching up top the whole time continue the story. As you think they are on Tarin’s side (wearing th same color and mask as Tarin), you soon learn that the Gabriel and his angels join forces with Glenda and the dark side. As they finish, Glenda assures Gabriel she has it from here and brings out Tarin for the final battle. Tarin soon learns that she has lost the battle. She comes out one more time to confront Gabriel for betraying her, he escapes laughing and she slowly gives up, she hits her heart one last time before waking to show that she may die but her heart never will. As everyone teams up, and is there to witness the death, Glenda walks towards Tarin, slowly, and finishes her off, slitting her neck.
